Run as different user help please
Hi, I am completely disabled UAC as we have locked down workstations there doesnt seem much point in having it enabled. The problem is that when you need to run something as admin you need to run as different user. I'm not sure why when I do a right click Run as admin it doesnt prompt for a password so have to use run as a different user. One example of an issue is that I cant add or remove programs using a right click or shift right click. If I search for *.cpl in c:\ I can see all the relevant control panel shortcuts so I can run as admin, I need to be able to run as different user but the option isnt there. If I run as admin it just runs under the user context. I guess I am not understanding something here. Any help would be appreciated.

I managed to partly resolve this issue. I can run the .cpl as any user from the command line. http://www.petri.co.il/run_control_panel_applets_as_another_user.htm The problem is that I have to log in as a local admin to remove programs. I cannot do a run as, have tried with the local admin and domain user accout. Error 1730. You must be an Administrator to remove this application. UAC is turned off, any ideas anyone ?

Hi, Based on my understanding, you cannot remove application with administration account currently, if I misunderstand your words, please feel free to let me know. Please try system restore to get back to a previous time point for test. If this issue persists, I suggest you create a new user account to check how it works. Hope it helps. The problem is I cannot run e.g. any control panel cpls using run an admin account logged on as a standard user. So if I want to e.g uninstall a program I have to log off and then log on as an admin . I turned UAC back on and I can now run control panel cpls using run as admin whilst logged on as a standard user, so I guess I have to have UAC on unless there is a workaround.

Hi Jesmat, Have you tried logged on as standard user, launching cmd as another user with local and domain admin rites, then killing explorer via task amanger? this should leave the elevated cmd still open - run a new instance of explorer from this, then see if this allows you access to remove apps. Windows 7: Shift + Right-Click -> Run As Different User. Also note if you want it permanently added as an option you can use this plugin: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc300361.aspx If you're trying to uninstall a program that requires to be ran as a different user you can locate the uninstall executable inside of the installation directory. Otherwise another nice tool to use is CCleaner. You can Shift + Right-Click -> Run as Different User for CCleaner and it will automatically run the uninstallers under those credentials.
