Router is not getting connected with laptop
Hello, I am having an ADSL connection at home (modem/router: with wireless & 4port LAN options in the device) which is working very fine with my laptops, desktop, cell phones, and VOIP-phone both with cable & wirelessly. I have used couple of wirelessphone, laptops & computers using LAN and wireless, on the same network.Recently I bought a netbook and tried to connect to my home network, but without luck. I have tried all possible ways (wire & wireless) but still it is not getting connected with the network. I found while trying to connect the netbook with cable, whenever I plug-in the network cable in my netbook, modem get disconnected from internet. While on the otherside netbook tries to connect again & again (ending with displaying a notification of "network cable unplugged" in the taskbar). The same problem occured with my office laptop (with Windows XP sp2), which i brought home for some work. Later, that system was formatted for some other reason and winxp sp2 was reinstalled, it get connected with my home network and was working very well with the office network too.I took this same netbook in my office & to my friend's home-network and it get connected by both ways (wire & wireless) at both locations.I tried by using static IPs also but still it is not getting connected (except wirelessly with limited access & a slow connection). The only difference noticed is: by making static IP is, i can access the router (192.168.1.1) with wireless connection but internet remains disconnected from the modem, (as long as laptop is connected with the modem). and with cable (& static IPs) the result is same, not getting connected.Sometime (1 out 8 times) the wireless connection manager does not show any network in the range also, even in two/three refresh tries, even the distance of my router & netbook is atmost one to 1.5 feets.I hope my question and details are very clear. Please advice! Configuration: Windows XP Service Pack3 / Internet Explorer 6.0 / Modam with wireless router & 4 LAN ports

Some things to try:Update the driver for your wireless network interface. Right-click on My Computer, left-click on Manage, and then go to Device Manager on the left pane of the new window. Find your network interface on the list and try to find out information about the device there (brand, driver, etc.) You'll need to use another computer to download the driver if you can't connect using the netbook.Turn the firewall off. This could include a Windows Firewall and any other third party firewall that you have like Norton or McAfee. This shouldn't be left off for more than testing to see if you can determine if the firewall is blocking your access.Check the router for MAC filtering, or any kind of access control. This can limit your netbook to only a local connection on some routers, although I am not sure that all routers offer this feature. Also, on the wired side, there can be bad ports on the router. Try disconnecting a cable from a computer that can connect to the Internet and using that cable to connect the netbook. Unplug from the back of the working computer and into the netbook.Use Windows to configure your wireless connection. Here is a really good troubleshooting procedure:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870702Let me know if any of this works. You might be looking at a deeper issue with networking protocols here, but we can fix that too.
