Route print Metrics and wirless connection issue
AllI have 100 XP cleints with dual nics wireless and wired. both netowrks have seperate IP schemes. wireless; x.x.13.0wired; x.x.12.0both connections are on at the same time. Metric for both NICs is set to AUTOMATIC.Issue: with both connections on windows xp is preferring the wireless over wired connection even though wired is faster. When I run Route Print - the wirless netowrk x.x.13.0- has a metric of 25 the wired netowrk x.x.12.0- has a metric of 30.Due to this all traffic is being router over the lowest metric route, which in this case is wireless. I thought windows XP would default to the fastest connection if the NICS were set to Automatic metric. There seems to be an issue.Anyone have an idea why is this happenning, and keep in mind I have 100 stations and growing so an manual setting change is not an option (as I know how to fix it manually). I think windows should be smart and give the wired LAN a lower metric.thank youMC1 person needs an answerI do too

I can't really explain why it's giving the wireless a better metric. This article has a lot of info and perhaps a suggestion on how to fix it with a script.: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894564 -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

thanks for the reply.well according to the article. the metric of 30 means the nic is running at 4mbps to 20 mbps, my nics are 100mbps and wireless is below 54mbps. So I do not understand how windows is doing this.I think the bigger issue is is this a bug in windows xp sp2. I would think there should a patch to resolve this issue instead of running scripts.

Don't know if it's a bug or not. You might consider installing SP3 of Windows XP though. If it is a bug in SP2 then SP3 might fix it.-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook
