Romaing profile
How to create a roaming profile on windows? I am not using a domain

To create a romaing profile on windows, you should at first create a share (give everybody at least the NTFS and Share modify permission on the shared folder because you are not using Active Directory so you have no choice) and then perform what is mentioned in this link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/5c995766-b872-4d4e-a2e6-3b2cf75b419f I would like also to say that it is not recommended to proceed like that. It will be more secure to use the Active Directory service. why it is not secure like that?

It is not secure like that because on you shared folder you should give at least NTFS and Share modify permissions to everybody group. It is for that everyone who will access this share will be able to modify its content. So, by proceeding with this way, the roaming profile will not be enough secure. Let's suppose you are using active Directory accounts, you can give NTFS and Share permissions only for the wanted user. I hope this was clear to explain you the difference between the use of roaming profiles for local accounts and active directory accounts. We will proceed by installing it virtually: 1- Download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. This is a link to do it: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/5c995766-b872-4d4e-a2e6-3b2cf75b419f 2-Install Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 (I recommend to you Microsoft Windows Server 2003 because it will consume less of ressources) If you've done that I will guide you step by step to install a new domain controller. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Best regards.
