Revert back to user at login
We have a Windows 7 lab environment on a 2008 R2 domain. Sometimes users will come in and logon as themselves, but when we have training we have to instruct the users to type in the training username. Is there a way to make Win7 save the training
username regardless who logs in last? I know we can change the registry where it won't remember the last logged on user, but that's not what we are wanting to do.

Hello,
if you want to get the username of accounts that had been used to logon, you can delevelop a batch file that creates a text file where you will find the used username accounts to log on the Win7 computers.
The batch file content is something like that echo %username% >> usernames.txt
If you want to restrict access to certain accounts, create a security group and add accounts you want. Once done, go to AD UC and go to your computers properties and then restrict access to this group.

This is no where near what I asked for. I don't need a list of usernames that log onto the pc, and I don't need to restrict access either, nor did I ask about either. I asked if there was a way to keep the username "training1" the log on name
they see when the pc is logged off.
Let me break this down: I have a domain account and I go into the lab and log on as LWEEMS. I browse the internet, check my email do whatever on this lab computer. When I log off and the next person sits down at this computer they see the
username LWEEMS on the line. Well this user isn't very advanced so he types in the password for TRAINING1 only to get the error that the password is invalid because he is trying to log on as LWEEMS.
I want to make it where if I log on to the computer as LWEEMS and then log off, the next person who sits at this computer will see the username TRAINING1 instead of LWEEMS.

Okay. So, I have not understood well what was your need.
So, you want to set a default username as I have understood.
Try these registry modifications (You can use GPP to apply it):
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DefaultUserName (Set the default user name you want to use)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DefaultDomainName (Set the dafault domain name to use)
Also, use group policies to hide last user name in logon screen: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938084.aspx
As registry modifications are involved, I recommand that you backup your computers system state before proceeding.

This did not work. I set the registry keys as you stated above but it is still not reverting back to the username I put in there.
I was logged on as TRAINING1 and set the registry, rebooted the computer and logged on as LWEEMS, did a log off and after I pressed CTRL ALT DEL I noticed LWEEMS was still there, even after verifying TRAINING1 was still in the registry.
Now these users are logging into the Domain and on one computer I saw the DefaultDomainName and on another I did not.

Have you used group policies to hide last user name in logon screen: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938084.aspx?
Please run
gpupdate /force
and check check that all is okay with AD replication.

No because I don't want to hide the username I want it to always display TRAINING1 regardless who logged in last.

AFAIK, It does not hide the username. It hides the last user name used to logon.
Try the registry modification + this group policy setting and check what it give.

I can't get you to Training1 displayed by default, but I can get you a cleared...
Run gpedit.msc
Expand Computer Config
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
Security Options
Look for the following "Interactive Logon:Do not display last user name"
Edit: This thread shows a registry edit that displays a default user name:

Was hoping to get Training1 to work. Guess it will have to be cleared and instruct the users to type in Training# then their password.
If anyone does get this to work please post up.
