Revert back to default Windows 7 local security policy
Hi,I'm having trouble getting my 360 to connect to my Windows 7 laptop as a Media Centre Extender and I think it's due to one or more settings my laptop has received via Group Policy when at the office. I've removed the laptop from the domain and want to apply the default local security settings. How do I go about doing this? I presume there must be a default template that I need to apply using secedit but I can't find it...Cheers,Charlie

Hi Charlie, I had once tried connecting my Xbox360 with a domain joined computer and it was successful. Do you receive any error when trying to connect? Are your trying to connect the Xbox360 to the router? Have you tried connect the Xbox360 directly to the computer NIC to narrow down the cause?Sean Zhu - MSFT

Sean Zhu - MSFT Hi Sean,I've tried the following:- Disabling the firewall on the laptop (Windows 7 Machine)- Plugging the laptop into the router via a cable rather than through Wireless- Removing the 360 from the DMZ and giving it a DHCP address and disabling all port forwarding firewall rules I had set up for it (These were related to an issue with restricted NAT, not for Media Centre)I've not tried to use a cross over cable to connect the 360 directly to the laptop. I think it's due to a policy that the laptop received when I joined it to the company domain, the company policies are quite strict, that's why I want to revert back to a standard installation and settings to test. I'm tempted just to rebuild the laptop to be honest as it maybe easier!Cheers,Charlie

Thanks for the update, Charlie. If you want to restore policies on the computer, you can try the steps in the following KB article: How do I restore security settings to the default settings?http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/313222Note: I consider we can also try this under Windows 7, as the article also applies to Windows Server 2008.In addition, I'd like to inform you that Xbox 360 comes with auto-sensing switching capabilities that renders crossover cables obsolete. Crossover cables still work, but you can use a regular ethernet cable to do direct link.Hope this helps!Sean Zhu - MSFT
