Return of the NFS client for non-Enterprise customers?

Hi,

I'm one of the project leads of the Cygwin project (http//cygwin.com).

A couple of years ago, I extended Cygwin so that it supports Microsoft's NFS client out of the box, including support for real symbolic links, real stat(2) information fetched from the NFS server, etc.

From Windows 7 to WIndows 8, the option to install the NFS client suddenly disappeared completely for non-Enterprise customers.  While NFS was available on Vista and Windows 7 at least in the Ultimate versions, only the Windows 8 Enterprise version provides an NFS client.  The downside is, no home user can purchase it.  So all home users running NFS shares on their Linux server are left hanging in the rain when updating to Windows 8.

So I'm wondering if there's any chance that the NFS client can return at leats to the Windows 8.1 Professional version, so that home users have a chance to use their NFS shares under Cygwin?

Thanks in advance,
Corinna

I second this request.  Please put the Services for NFS feature for all Windows' SKU.

Hi Vincent,

will there be some feedback, or even a chance to discuss this issue before 8.1 goes RTM?

Thanks,
Corinna
