Retaining file permissions
Hello, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit . I am also somewhat of a Windows newbie. I am part of a writer's group that meets 2 times per week and one of the ways I share my work with my colleagues is to share out the folder in which I store that related work. For the few hours that we meet, I add "Everyone" to the working files properties. The issue is, everytime I make a change and save it, the file's permissions are reset and I am the only person with access. I'd like to be able to just "set it and forget it." I've also tried creating an account for another writer in the group, for testing purposes, and gave that user full control to the file. I do not really want to create a bunch of user accounts on my laptop, solely for the purpose of collaborative writing. No one else would ever be accessing my laptop except through which ever share I create. So, to summarize this folder share issue: If I save the file, I am the only resulting owner with access. If he saves the file, permissions remain in tact. This is Home Premium , so I am unable to create a group or group policy. Is there a way to work around this? Thank you in advance, Ken Reed.

No solid solutions. Your requirements are present if your network is a domain. However your Windows 7Home Premium cannot be a domain member. A workaround: create two folders. One is for sharing your contents, only allow others to read, but not write. The other one allows other users to write files in it.Arthur Xie - MSFT
