Restore previos version of offline files folder (CSC) - access denied
Hi I need to restore a previous version of the offline files folder (c:\windows\csc) to an earlier date. I select the folder then choose previous version , select the date and only have the option for OPEN or COPY the folder v2.0.6 . If I choose either of these I get the error windows cannot access \\localhost\c$\@GMT-2010.04.02 etc etc .. you do not have permission. I am logged on as Admin and have tried to assign myself persmissions/ownership but keep getting access denied. I desperatley need this as this is an offline cache of files that were on a windows home server that is now defunct..!! This is windows 7 ult.. I know the files are in this folder but cant seem to get access to them... any help is appreciated... I cant open/copy this folder at all.. for some reason the shadow copy appears as a network share when you try to open it with UNC path of \\localhost\c$ etc

You may try to take the ownership for this folder and then try again. However, I cannot be assure that you will get the data back with this way.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I'm having the same problem. And, taking ownership doesn't help. You can access the current folder, but you still can't access "Previous Versions". PS: MS support people, stop marking your own responses as Answers and giving yourselves points. You're not providing real answers and maybe preventing someone from reading the thread that could actually provide a correct answer. Where's the option to "Unmark as Answer"?-- Henri

After a restart, I was able to access the Previous Versions and retrieve the missing documents. FYI to anyone else who runs into this problem - I used the following to take ownership and gain access to the folder: cd %systemroot%takeown /f csc /r /a /d yicacls csc /grant Everyone:(F) /t /l /q then reboot.-- Henri
