aviramof - You've got a couple of options maybe - If you can't restore from your Acronis backups, you can try an "in place upgrade" - whereby you reinstall Win 7 using the Win 7 DVD on top of the existing installation. This will leave your data files and apps in place, but will restore Windows 7 to it's default state. You'll need to reactivate and will need to visit Windows Update to get the latest updates.

Isn't this the most puzzling? Someone told me my restere points were being deleted becauseI was dual booting with XP. I have tried it as a singlebootbut windows 7 for some reason has a hard time keeping restore points saved to disk.

well i was not dual booting with xp i made a clean install via xp with virtual drive and i did managed to fix the problem once it was either by using sfc /scannow or something to do with permisions or offlineupdates i'v installed or some windows 7 tweaks software i installed i don't know exceclly but at the moment notsfc not permisions and not offline updates works and not Windows 7 Manager 1.1.1 so maybe a diffrent sofware i installed would help one i took from here:http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/05/29/7-free-windows-7-tweaking-utilitieswould help once again.:)

is it possible that the problem is caused because i made a clean install via virtual drive and not formated the computer?is there a diffrent ntfs version that come with windows 7 newer then 3.1?10x in advance.

Hello aviramof,I am not clearly gettingthe meaning of 'clean install via Virtual drive'. Do you still have XP on the machine? Does the machine boot to XP anytime before you boot to Windows 7?With dual boot XP and Windows 7, there is a limitation that you will lose your Win7 restore points as soon as you boot into XP. Please refer to this article for the issue and possible workaround: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=926185Please respond whether this works for you or not. Thanks,Praveen Tiwari[MSFT]

There should be no issues using virtual XP. Having XP on a VHD should notaffect your restore points. The problem I mentioned for XP only applieswhen dual booting with conventional partitions.

About the only thing in this thread that makes much sense is the Synopsis Line that introduces it.But I can confirm that in at least one other installation (mine) restore points are deleted upon restart. That's restart of Windows 7, not restart of Windows XP, or Windows Vista.See my related thread : Restore points disappearWindows 7 RTM 64-bit.

fanfarenj, Could check whether there are VSS event logs (eventvwr.exe) indicating that snapshots were deleted and send the event details? Thanks, Praveen

I'm not sure how relevent this is but I had my system partition C:\ turned on for system restore and all other drives set to off. When I checked to see if there were any points available, no. SoI increased the diskusage for restore points ondrive C:\ and created a point by hand. When I searched the system volume information folderin drive C:\ for the actual files backed up by system restore, no files found. I checked the system volume information folders on the other partitions and the files were in fact stored on another partition D:\ althoughD:\ isset to off and not moniteredin system restore. So increasing disk usage for C:\ may have increased the diskusage for restore data to D:\ and the restore point remained after reboot.
