Restarting Computer (Like Deleting Everything, I believe called Reformating etc)
Alright I was wondering about how to do something. Though I'm not sure about which Topic Category this would go in. Anyway, I put it in this category, because I want my computer to start going faster etc. Therefore, I want to delete everything and restart my computer from like when it was first made. Though I have no idea how to do this. I heard this was called "Re-Formatting". So therefore, how do I actually do this. If their is no such thing, please tell me, or is their any other way. Thank You,- Jake1 person got this answerI do too

Depends whether you have a makers restore cd or an actual MS winxp cd, if the former you generally boot up from the restore cd and follow the instructions, which vary, depending on maker. If an actual winxp cd you again boot from the win cd, then; http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.htmlNB You will need to install your PC makers or hardware makers drivers, after the installation, and of course run MSUpdate for Important / Critical updates ONLY and NOT reccommended updates (Drivers) *before* you start installing software

Although that is what I know I am needing. I've heard of a command that I can use without using the CD. Which it does work, but then after command line 2-3 it doesn't work. The command is called: Two things that I know that works in the CMD Prompt. Though like I said after Command Line 2 it doesn't. Start > Run > Cmd *Types In* Format C: or Start > Run > Cmd *Types In* C:\Windows\System32\Format C: These are my results which command: C:\Documents and Settings\Admin>format C:The type of the file system is NTFS.WARNING, ALL DATA ON NON-REMOVABLE DISKDRIVE C: WILL BE LOST!Proceed with Format (Y/N)? YVerifying 76308MFormat cannot run because the volume is in use by anotherprocess. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first.ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N) YCannot lock the drive. The volume is still in use.

Format won’t start because Windows is running. Start ->Run ->cmd launches a command prompt fromwithin Windows, and since Windows is already running, locks are preventing format from proceeding.Follow Paulcouk’s guidance on re-installing your operating system. A disk format will be part of the process. Choose full NTFS format & pack some patience…it may take a while.
