When manually downloading the authrootstl.cab and checking it's security chain, I find an error in it's Digital Signature: "The certificate is not valid for the requested usage." Signer information Name: Microsoft Certificat Trust List Publisher E-mail: Not Available Signing Time: Monday, December 14, 2009 8:14:15 PM Issued to: Microsoft Certificate Trust List Publisher Issued by: Microsoft Certificate Trust List PCA Valid from 4/10/2009 yo 7/10/2010 Looks to me like the certificate needs to be pulled and re-issued to fix the problem? This is because the certificate has a "chain" or "root authority" that is not trusted on the user's computer. This typically occurs with moving certs/keys from computer to computer. To correct this error, install "root certificate" of the Certificate Authority (CA) that created it. Typically you can go to the CA vendor's website and download it again as needed. No certs/keys have been moved. The update in question is offered from Microsoft Windows Update, signed by Microsoft, issued to Microsoft, issued by Microsoft. Looks to me like Microsoft is the CA. Where do I download the "root certificate" from Microsoft? Dave

Hi Arthur I installed a new SSD and fresh installation of W7/64 and the issue does not exist anymore. I would guess it was just my issue. Thanks for your assistance. Dave
