Renaming duplicate files when copying or pasting

I am trying to copy some files from my camera to a folder - running Windows 8 - I get a warning box telling me the files are duplicate names and I can continue and replace or leave files unchanged - I actually want to rename the incoming files (by adding a number) - this used to happen automatically and now that option seems to have disappeared. Did I miss something?

Just discovered that if I copy all of the files from the camera to the disc, then repeat the copy process then I get a dialog box giving me the option to keep both. Strange that this works differently for an import from an external source?

Hi,

It seems like your Photo file was protected on your flash drive, please check whether the write protected was turned on.

Another workaround method, please create a new folder, then copy all the photo file into it, after that, you should could rename their name.

Thanks - this is what I did - copied to a new sub folder - then renamed - although for most I just left the name the same as my photo management software monitors the top folder and all sub-folders
