Removing and Reinstall TCP IP v4 in Vista
Hi all, I was test out some of my more common XP and 2003 troubleshooting steps on Vista. To remove TCP IP (verison 4) in XP you needed to edit the NETTCPIP.inf file in the Windows\inf . However when you tried to save changes to this file in Vista (logon as a local Admin, Workgroup setup) You get a "helpful" pop-up "Cannot create the C:\Windows\inf\nettcpip.inf file. Make sure that the path and file name are correct." It then offers to let you save the file some where else. :(

After a Vista update, my computer will not connect to the internet. I am trying to remove and re-install TCPIP4, and I cannot edit the nettcpip.inf file. Same issues. I am the administrator. I ran notepad as Admin. I tried to change permissions on the file. Anyone know how to edit this file? Or change permissions on files in the C:\Windows\inf\ directory?
