Removing a SBS 2008 Domain from a Windows 7 Computer
I work in a Real Estate Company and we are required to purchase our own computers. I recently upgraded to a Windows 7 Pro computer and was part of the company's domain. The company ran a 2008 Small Business Server. I have since left the company and found that I cannot install new software or perform any task without the User Account Control asking me for an administrator password which I do not remember ever setting up. How do I remove myself from my old domain without losing any of my settings and programs? My computer only has one account which I thought was the administrator account. Thanks.

You must log in using a userID that has local admin credentials. If you are unable to do that, you'll need to reload the system. Without a local admin account, you wont be able to "un-join" the domain. There are unsupported ways to change the password for the local admin and/or other local accounts. If you do a Google/Bing search on that topic, you'll find alot of info on how to do that.Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.
