Removing a Mail Account with no access

Hey everyone,

I have a Gmail account that I was using for a while and I added it in the Windows 8 Mail app months ago, and it was fine. Since then, I have deleted/closed the email address with Google. Now, I can't remove it from the Win 8 Mail app.

It's marked as "Needs attention" on the bottom right-hand list of email accounts. Because of that marker, I cannot edit settings on the account. Clicking on it opens the "Connecting to a service..." pop-up, asking me to log-in to the account (that I no longer have access to). If I go into the settings charm and try to edit accounts there, it's again marked as "Needs attention", and clicking on it there opens up the Connection pop-up again. The behavior occurs on all 3 of my Windows 8.1 devices, including my Surface 2.

Any ideas on how to get rid of it? I just want to get rid of that account from the app. If I need to go into the registry/AppData, I'm more than comfortable doing so. I just don't know where to look.

Hi,

Didn't you see Remove account button?

If yes, please try uninstall this mail app, and then reinstall it to confirm the issue.

I am suffering from the same problem and I have been searching for an answer forever.  Did you read the original question?  "If I go into the settings charm and try to edit accounts there, it's again marked as "Needs attention", and clicking on it there opens up the Connection pop-up again."

What this person is saying is that there is no ability or opportunity to 'Remove Account'.  The 'Connecting To Service' message pops up and is asking that you to 'sign in'.  You can't sign in to an account that doesn't exist and there begins the endless loop.

I really find it hard to believe that there is no way to remove the account from the list after it has been deleted.  I even went into Credential Manager and removed the account from there and rebooted to no avail.

Uninstalling the Mail App and reinstalling does not resolve the issue.  Removing it from Credential Manager does not resolve the issue.  No one has an answer?  How can no one have an answer to this?

If any of you told me it is impossible to remove the account from the list - that would be an answer - at the very least I could put it to rest.

Thanks

Hi,

The main problem is that the "Remove Account" button never appears.

I am having the same problem.  On accounts that are successfully logged in, the settings come up easily, and the Remove Account button is where it should be.

I left my employer, and now the email account is no longer active.  Instead of the settings screen, it has a pop-up/pop-over titled "Connecting To A Service."  Lo and behold, it loads my employer's account login page (which obviously won't work).  To my knowledge, there is no way to bypass the "Connecting to a Service" prompt to get to the email settings in order to delete this account.

Hence, No, the "Remove Account Button" does not show, and there seems no way to resolve the issue.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn't work, neither does deleting the account in the Credential Manager.

Very Frustrating!

So I haven't seen an update to this issue since last year... it still exists (the problem of "Remove Account" not appearing).  Is there, or is there not a resolution for this?

Thanks!
