Removing Windows XP known administrator password
Hello, I am trying to find how to remove my administrator password. I know the password, but I want to remove it. My hard drive is failing (working intermittently now), but in order to be able to use a SATA/USB converter to extract information from it, I need to remove the password, because I can't access the folders while it is set up as an external USB drive (the folders don't allow access, and don't give an opportunity to enter a password). So, I need to remove the administrator password - not just change it, but make it so there is no longer a password there.1 person needs an answerI do too

To remove the account password, go to Control Panel > User Accounts , click the account, and click Remove my password or Remove the password .However, that isn't necessary and won't solve the problem. Windows doesn't use account passwords to control access to a hard drive or its folders. If you get an Access denied message when trying to read a drive or folder, follow the steps in this article: How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP .Boulder Computer Maven Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Thank you!!! Taking ownership of the folder and the subcontainers and objects is exactly what I needed. Now I can get all of my data back from my failing hard drive, including 10 years of family tree research. Thank you so much!
