Remove pictures in Lync

I'm using Lync 2013, and even though I've changed the Options -> Personal to say that I don't want to see pictures, Lync still shows a silly cartoon picture next to people when I'm having a conversation with them, next to their name.

We're wanting to use this at work, so we really need to get rid of this as it makes the program look childish.

Does anyone know how you can get it to just show people's name just like it does in the list of people?

Hi Matthew,

There is a Display option available where you can select the Name view. This will remove the pictures from lync.

Please follow these steps:

-> In the Lync main window, click your picture.
-> In My Picture options, under My picture, click Edit or Remove Picture.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks and Regards,

Sahana

Run the command New-CsClientPolicy -DisplayPhoto NoPhoto. Then assign the new client policy to these users you dont want to display photo.  The parameter DisplayPhoto determines whether or not photos (of both the user and his or her contacts) will be displayed in

It's not my picture, (or anyone else's for that matter) that I can see. It's a cartoon of a white circle (meant to look like a head) on top of a white shape meant to look like a body which I can see when I'm IM'ing someone. As this looks very childish, and is utterly pointless, I want to turn it off

I've successfully removed the cartoons from the main Lync window, but it's still there in the individual conversation windows.

Is there really no way of removing the profile pictures from the chat window (with client settings)?

All I want to see in the chat window is names and text, in a condensed form. The profile pictures are particularly useless when talking with a single other person.

If you have the November 2013 Lync 2013 update (15.0.4551.1005) applied, the inline IM picture cannot be disabled as far as I know, neither on the Lync server backend nor the client.

Is there a feedback thread where I can vote for it or something? I am also quite agitated with this...

Seeing the cartoon is totally ridiculous.  The time of each message is shown too, which should be allowed to disable.  Please fix this as soon as possible.

Completely agree. The pictures are useless and a total waste of space. There should be an option to remove!

Hi All,

I was able to remove the avatar in Lync chat windows by unchecking the box in the "Toggle picture of sender/receiver" portion of this MS blog post. Click here for the blog post. I was also unhappy with the avatar as I have my screens at 125% and it was taking up too much space. Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Try this. For MS Lync 2013.

Tools > Options > IM

Look for this option called HIDE PICTURES IN IM

Put a tick on it and lick ok.

See response from Supposedlyabnormal below. Tools > Options > IM > *Hide* pictures in IM

This works to not show inline pictures yes, but for my part the icon or picture for person stays.

I don't have this option, but I found I could turn these images off from Tools -> Options -> Personal -> Show Pictures of Contact (near the bottom in the "Show Pictures" block).

Options->Personal->
"Display photo"

uncheck "show photos of contacts"
