To remove the password, go to Control Panel>User Accounts and click on your user account. You will see where you can remove the password. If you want to keep the password (usually for networking purposes) but want to automatically logon (go directly to the Desktop):Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htmMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hello, I'm not sure if it's ok to post my question here, but I would like to ask you(Malkeleah) a question related to User account issue. So if it's possible for you to help me with some answer I would really appreciate it.I posted a question regarding Remote Desktop use and I understood some part of it with answer, but I would like to ask some stuff I want to make sure. someone mentioned "random IP generator" to find computer's IP. And if my user account has no password and then if they find my IP, they can remotely access my computer. My question isI do NOT have user account password for my computer to logon and Remote Assistance setting is checked on system-remote setting panel but if I do NOTenable Remote Desktop setting(go to system panel-remote -uncheck Allow users to connect remotely~), even if strangers who use random IP Generator find my IP, they can NOT access my computer remotely, right?I would like to make sure of that. again, I would appreciate it if you can reply to me somehow.thank you very much

Next time please make a new post all your own instead of sticking your question into someone else's unrelated thread. I'm a bit unsure of what you're trying to determine and I don't know what you mean by "random IP Generator". That's why it would have been better to make a new post, maybe including a live link to your previous post. But since you're here...If you're worrying about someone getting into your computer, then:1. Use a router with your broadband connection, even if you have only one computer. Make sure to set the router up securely. I'm glad to give you instructions on how to do that if you need them. The main thing is to change the router's administrative password from its default and if enabling wireless to use a strong encryption level and passphrase.2. Unless you need to share files with other computers on your Local Area Network ("LAN"), uncheck the box next to File Sharing in the Windows Firewall.3. Uncheck the box next to "Allow users to connect remotely" in the Windows Firewall. It won't matter if you have a user password or not in any of those cases.4. Make sure your computer is well-maintained and virus/malware-free.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Maintenancehttp://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware5. thank you for your reply and sorry for posting my question on somebody's post.following link is the post I originally asked a question regarding Remote Desktop and "Cyber Defend Team" provided me some answer, but I wasn't quite sure about IP generator the person was talking about.http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpsecurity/thread/df4a69bc-11c3-4ec1-aac1-afe6711e8e24if you have a chance, please check that thread.thank you very much.

I would just use something like TeamViewer (free for personal use) orGoToMyPC instead of Remote Desktop. That, in conjunction with what I've written above, should take care of allowing you to connect remotely and be secure. It will be much easier, too.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

To remove the password, go to Control Panel>User Accounts and click on your user account. You will see where you can remove the password.Unfortunately, I DON'T see where to remove the password. When I follow those instructions and click on the user account, I have the following options: Change My Password; Change My Picture; or Set up my account to use a .NET Passport. Those are the only options. What am I missing? I have looked all over for the answer to this, and everyone says to click "remove password" but that is absolutely not an option.
