Remove Briefcase
Did a reinstall of Windows 7 Build 7100 and after a day or 2 of use, I see that now (not in past 2 days) desktop rightclick - New shows that I can make a Briefcase. As part of post install settings, I fix firewall, network, turn off share, sync, Offline Files, Remote Mgmt., etc. etc.
1) What is it I do or the OS does that makes this option available to me? 2) Since I never want to use a briefcase, what do I turn off to make creation of one impossible?3) If no answer for 2) is it safe to remove every registry element where string Briefcase exists which is how I get it out of the New menu?
Thanks for answer in advance.

You should be able to drag it to the trash. If you cant, then there is a deeper problem. The briefcase is a sync object that has been available for years, its meant to sync files between a desktop and a portable.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!

http://www.recipester.org/Recipe:Activate_or_Remove_the_Briefcase_in_Windows_7_39303238Briefcase is old school, and it was more for syncing files between a portable and a network location although any external device is the main reason as the files would be offline. Sync Center is the tool to use besides, your verison of Windows 7 will soon come to a halt, time to quit playing and buy it or go back to XP if you rather keep playing with the briefcase ;)MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

I suggest backing up the registry before performing any changes.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Briefcase - So the answer must be: 1) nobody knows why >New allows create briefcase.2) nobody knows how to remove it from >New short of deleting reference to it in the registry.3) maybe I am the only person who this happens to? I have another question about >New.Along with new Folder, Shortcut, Bitmap Image,Text Document, Briefcase, Compressed (Zipped) Folder, why is there also "Contact"? Why would anyone want to create a Contact on the Desktop? Why isn't the only place that a Contact can be created inside a Mail or Messenger application?
Why did I make this Forum entry at all? This is not a big deal or problem really, it is just wrong.
