Are you thinking of Remote Desktop? If yes, what flavour of Windows 7 do you have?

The command
mstsc.exe /v:192.168.1.45
will launch Remote Desktop on the remote machine, provided that Remote Desktop access is enabled on that machine. Check out the command
mstsc /?
and this
link for further details.

Question: The remote does not know it's identity? How does mstsc.exe /v:192.168.1.45 automatically connect to the correct
node?

Please define what you mean with "node".

By "node", I mean computer.

By "node", I mean computer.
Every computer in a network has a unique IP address and a unique NetBIOS name. Mstsc.exe will accept either an IP address (as in my example) or a name. It's your choice. I recommend you give it a try.

Sigh...I know that.

Sigh...I know that.
I thought you would. But then I fail to understand why you ask "How does mstsc.exe
/v:192.168.1.45 automatically connect to the correct node?" Maybe I should not ask what you mean with "node" but what you mean with "correct node". What is correct, what is incorrect?
