Remote disk management trouble
So basically, I'm using disk management in an MMC for a server remotely, and i'm getting the message "RPC Server is unavailable". I had this in XP and found that it was from windows firewall. In XP, I allowed TCP port 135 and dmremote.exe from system32 and it worked fine, but dmremote.exe isn't there in Windows 7. I'm guessing it was replaced by something else, so now I don't know what program to allow. If I disable windows firewall it works like a charm, but I'd rather not leave it that way. I have TCP port 135 both inbound and outbound allowed, so does anyone know what else I need to do? Thanks in advance!

It looks like you now have more choices than before. Have you tried enabling Remote Volume Management in the firewall settings? How about Windows Remote Management?Bill

Hello, If the issue persists after performing Bill's suggestion, please also enable the following Inbound rules in Windows Firewall. Remote Event Log Management Remote Service Management Windows Management Instrumentation Thanks, Novak
