Remote desktop stopped working on XP after SP3
Hi. After upgrading my Windows XP professional laptop at work to SP3, remote desktop stopped working. The client machine is also Windows XP SP3. The symptom is as follows: I put both computers side by side so I could observe better what is going on. It actually connects at first. From the client machine, I can see the host machine's desktop. However, there is an hour glass and I can't really type anything. In a separate window, I am pinging the IP address of the host machine. After the client machine sees the host's desktop, I can see the host machine's terminal locking. At this point, the ping stops on the client machine. It looks like the act of locking the host computer seems to disable the network adapter. Then after a while (maybe 30 seconds), the client connection times out. Then, if I unlock the host machine, it starts to bring up the network adapter and within a few seconds ping works and then RDP is accessible again. Locking the host machine manually doesn't seem to cause this behavior. If I lock the host with Ctrl-Alt_del, then "k", the network adapter stays up and I can ping the machine. This all started happening after updating to SP3. I've read many articles about RDP but none of them seem to match the symptoms that I'm seeing.3 people need an answerI do too
