Sorry, but it's not the same. When you try to use Remote Desktop Connection from Vista Business into a Server 2003 server, it automatically attaches the ip address\username. If this is in a Domain environment, then it will not authenticate to the domain and errors out. Anyone have a solution to remove the IP address before the username ? thanks..

I've installed the Vista Ultimate RTM on a secondary partition on my office station.I use mstsc to connect to a 2003 Server with it and you just need to make sure that the login for the domain or local machine is set properly.I know on one of my servers at work for some reason it is always trying to login via the local machine and not the domain. So when it tries to login I set it to the domain and it works just fine.Other than that I haven't had a problem with RMD at all!

What exactly did you do to enable the connection from Vista to Server2k3? We are currently testing Vista Business and are having the same issue as previously stated in an above post. We cannot get the domain recognized to log into the server, only the local machine. Is it possible you could list the process in which you were able to log into the server? The help would be appreciated!

Open Remote Desktop and press options. Go to the Advanced tab and under Server authentication there is a drop down menu. Select always connect. Then when you connect it will still ask for the user name and password in a popup. I have not found a way to stop this popup from coming up yet, so just put something into those boxes and click ok. Then the remote window will open as it did for Windows XP.

I have had exactly the same problem, when I Remote Desktop to my customers server through a VPN it always puts the address as the login domain. The only work around that I've found is tocopy mstsc.exe from my windows XP box to a folder on my Vista Box, run the XPversion and create the old style .rdp files, these rdp files will then log straight in usingVista's newer mstc.exe.

I found this problem too when I installed Vista, all you have to do is remember that it's going to default to the machine you're connecting to for authentication, so instead of just typing your username, type "domain\username" in the username field. Then it'll authenticate to that domain vs the local machine. I've had no problem with it at all.

Disagree, if I want to RD to a computer in a domain of which my computer is not a member this does not work.e.g. connect to: 192.169.12.14Login Name: domainname\usernameProduces this nonsenseLogin name:192.168.12.14\domainname\username

I think I found a SOLUTION, not a nice one but it works for me. When connection to ex: 192.169.12.14 and Vista is asking you to type the password - then just press OK without entering any password and the logon box from my server 2003 pops up letting you enter the password "the old way" Hope this help's :-)).

I didn't install anything special. Just ran mstsc.exe and connected. I forget how I set it to always remember the domain instead of the local machine name but it's been working great for me. I can even VPN in and then use my laptop running Home Premium to mstsc into a server.Usually ads the gateway IP I use to VPN into but once it gets to the server I just hit ok on the wrong user/password and change it to the normal user/pass and its good to go

This worked great for me. I just put in the username but left the password blank and replied 'yes' to the do you want to connect anyway prompt. It opens the remote connection where you can put in the username and password. Thanks for the solution!
