Remote desktop between two Windows 7 pro computers fails in one direction only
I have two computers running W7 pro, one is a desktop, one is a laptop. Both have remote desktop enabled and using a seperate computer which is running XP I can easily log onto either of the w7 computers. While I can log onto my laptop from my desktop without hassle I can no longer cannot connect from my laptop to my desktop which appears to reject the login details I send it. For a time I was unable to share files on my desktop with my laptop but was able to share in reverse, after tweeking my sharing options however I have resolved the file sharing bug and now only the remote desktop issue remains. Further more when I run Ubuntu on my laptop I can remote into my desktop fine.

Hi, Thanks for the post! According to my understanding, your laptop cannot remote access to the desktop. How about using IP address to access the desktop? You can also refer to: Why can’t I connect using Remote Desktop Connection? Thanks for the reply Miya, Yep, its just my W7 pro laptop which cannot connect, all my other devices (including an iPod) can. Unfortunately using the ip address hasn't made any difference, I tried the solutions on the link you suggested as well but they too were of no help unfortunately. Its when it gets to the 'securing remote connection' stage that it fails and I get stuck at the window asking for the login credentials and I'm simply told that "The credentials that were used to connect to the computer did not work. Please enter new credentials" Despite the user name and password being correct.

Have you trie disabling remote desktop on the desktop, and then -re-enabling it. Ie untick the "allow remote conenctionS" click apply, then tick it again. I have had to do this on a few of the clients here. cheers Ggrahamcoffer

Thanks for the suggestion and lightning fast response Graham, but unfortunatly that hasn't helped either. I've also tried restarting after applying the changes and I still get the same error. As a side note this problem has existed for possibly a month or more as I only tested the connection when I was setting up my computers (and for a week or so remote desktop between these two computers worked both ways) but only now that I have a need to remote to my desktop have I discovered I no longer can.
