Remote assistance listening port on Vista
Hello,
In order to be compliant with our IpSec domain strategy, I would like to know if it's possible to change the listening port for Remote Assistance to TCP 3389 on Vista.
Currently, Remote Assistance uses dynamic ports on Vista and I would like to bind this service to TCP 3389.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Damien,
Like any other COM/DCOM application, PRC dynamic ports are required for the Remote Assistance to work properly. Here are some related articles for your reference:

Hi,
Previously on Windows XP Remote Assistance was using TCP 3389 for its terminal services session. Now Vista uses a dynamic port, and I would need our new Vista machines to behavethe same than XP. It didn't find any solution for that, even in your documentation.
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
MSF said that Vista, by design, uses a dynamic port for Remote Assistance. It cannot be changed unless we ask for a Design Change Request of the tool.
Thanks

This may be a late reply, but if anyone else is still interested....I was able to make remote assistance work between a XP box and a Vista box. I use the "Offer Remote Assistance" method isntead of messaging or email method. On the Vista Box, these settings have to be in place:
-Make sure user account (offering assistance)is administrator on host PC
-Go to gpedit.msc and add authorized users to list
(Administrative Templates->System->Remote Assistance->Offer Remote Assistance:Enable; add account or security group to the list of authorized accounts)
-Add the following to firewall exceptions list:
Network Discovery
Remote Assistance
Windows Remote AsistanceStill trying to figure out how to remote assistance from XP to Windows 7, though.
