Remote Shutdown access denied
I routinely use Remote Administration and like to remotely shutdown the computers at night using commands like Shutdown -m computer -s.
One office computer with the same software installed as all the others gives the error "Access is denied(5)". It's running Win7 Pro as is the calling machine. I can connect remotely to the computer and shut it down with Alt F4.
What could cause Access to be denied?

Are you really logged on as an administrator?
Is the computer in a domain or workgroup?
try to disable the firewall, for a few minutes
You can also use shutdown -i

I am an Administrator. The firewall is off, workgroup. Shutdown -i does the same. Running the command prompt as Administrator does not help, but logging on as "the" administrator allows the command prompt to work. Very
bizarre.

What is the logged on user of that remote computer? The user must be a member of administrator group. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Both computers are logged on as the same administrator, just not *the* Administrator.
