Remote Desktop to xp from win 7
I cannot connect to my XP pro machine using Windows 7 Pro on a Domain. I keep getting the following message but have no known connection blockage: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1)Remote access to the server is not enabled. 2) The remote computer is turned off. 3) The remote computer is not available on the network. I have checked all of these but cannot get it to work..

If your IT policy allows it, turn off the Windows Firewall service on the XP machine. Otherwise, open up TCP port 3389 in the firewall on the XP machine. For some odd reason, on some machines, just turning on Remote Desktop doesn't create a firewall exception, especially after SP3 is installed.

Thanks Bob, Windows Firewall is not turned on at all and I cannot turn it on as our network runs CISCO ASDM. Still cannot get access.

Windows Firewall is turned off or the Firewall Service is disabled? Also make sure the RPC and Terminal Services services are running on the remote PC. Can you access it from another XP machine?
