Remote Desktop patch update with XP sp3 has lead to odd behaviour upon RDC connection via a VPN.
Hello forum. I am new to be gentle. I use a comparatively old HP Media Centre with XP Media Centre edition OS v5.1. I had it patched to sp2 for ages and I mean until very recently. As well as the usual home use I sometimes work from home connecting to my works LAN using a Nortel VPN - bear with me - afterwhich I would use RDC to attach to my work PC. Happy days. Now, having found out that actually I needed to a) patch my PC in a big way anyway but b) push it up to sp3 of XP especially since support will shortly be removed fo sp2 I took the plung and installed sp3. Mostly all is well with sp3 except when I use the new and sexy RDC verison which comes with it. whicih I think is v6.1, Bottom line is that I can use it to attach to my work PC, which incidentally is a Dell with XP sp3, but I find the oddest behaviour which I have not experienced before but logic dictates to me that it is the RDC new version which is the contributing factor. Basically the remote connection is far more dodgy that it used to be but worse is the behavour I experience with the Ctrl and Shift keys. To give an example I would write a sentence such as "Hello Bob" but instead I would get "hEllo bOb". It is as if the request to use the shift key in that example is delayed for some reason. I know this sounds really bizzare but as you can imagine, such can drive a man quite crazy. I am consulting my internal IT about it as I think they have an older verison of RDC with their XP sp3 builds and this may be why. As a home user I wanted to throw i out there. Bizarre I know. I have been trawling the net to find out if this has popped up elsewhere and have seen plenty of information derriding RDC's more recent releases but I have not found what I need to do to roll the patch back to the old verison if indeed thatis what to do. Clearly I don't waht to roll back off xp3 and I would rather not have to end up upgrading to Win 7 just yet. I am not sure this 2004 PC could take it.
