Remote Desktop override domain prefix on user signin?
Hi, Using remote desktop on RC1 I have found that the domain is prefixed to the user name provided in the credentials popup window. However, the public FQDN I use to connect to my remote servers is not the same as the domain name of the server (i.e. connecting to example.dynip.com leads to a user prefix of example.dynip.com\Administrator rather than the example\administrator or preferably just administrator thatI need to login). In XP you can choose not to send the domain information with your credentials. Is there any way to override RC1s behaviour? I have looked in the advanced connection options and do not see an option for this. Thanks, Michael.

Hi, In your sample, entering Administrator@example.dynip.com as user may be an option...

No, it is not possible to override this behavior. You have to send a domain. Sending example.dynip.com\Administrator should work though. I realize it is confusing because you think it will not work, but it should work. If you want, you can also select another user and type in example\administrator as the username. What happens in Vista is thatthe credentials dialogdemands that a domain be attached to the username. A username with no domain does not make any sense. If we can guess a good domain, it will save time for users. As a result, our initial guess is whatever is entered as the server name. As a result, you see the prefix example.dynip.com. Note that on subsequent connections, you will see the last username you successfully used to logon as the username hint, which should be example\administrator. So, hopefully, this will not be a continuing problem.

Thank you for your reply. Using your advice I was able to successfully connect using both administrator@example.local and example.local/administrator.
