Remote Desktop only one way?

This is pis sing me off. It shouldn't be this difficult.

I have a Windows 8 computer that I want to remote into from a Win7 box. It's only on a local network. When I'm on a Win7 box and try to connect to the Win8, I get the dreaded "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: bla bla bla. I do not get the logging window. Yes, I enabled remote desktop on the Win8. When I go to the Win8 and try to access the Win7, I get the login window. I checked both firewall settings and they are good.

Summary: Win8 can remote into Win7. Win7 cannot remote into Win8. I do not get the pop-up window when trying to remote into Win8, only the message of, "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1) Remote access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is turned off 3) The remote computer is not available on the network.

What edition of Windows 8 are you running?  Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro??  In the FAQs in the link below only Windows 8 pro and Enterprise will allow RDP.

When you say you checked firewall and it looked "ok" how did you determine this?  I'm curious what you checked in firewall so we can ensure all is the way it should be.

Please don't go around doing one liners and then marking them as answered just to build your points up.

If you were doing this for 30 years you should be knowing everything about that and you should solve it by yourselves without posting it in forums. When you don't know to do that you should read all the posts.

Have you tried (for the sake of testing) adding the "everyone" group into you remote desktop users group.

Here is how:

Are you using the normal RDP port?

Did you enable RDP for all 3 types of connections?  (Public, private, and Domain)

This really should just work, something has got to be blocking it.  (AV/third party firewall?)

Are you using computer name or ip address to attempt the connection?  Try ip address if that isn't what you're doing.

I tried name and IP. There's something on the Win8 machine that's blocking remote desktop. I disabled defender and firewall. I'm guessing there's another setting or GP that's causing the problem.

Did you apply this update to the Win7 Machine?

Hi,

How is your problem going? Did it still pop up the same error message when you connect failed? if so, may be we can check the probably reason in error message one by one, such as the remote computer network is available. if there any new error message, please be more carefull and follow it to check your system setting.

In addition, a clean boot may be helpful to avoid 3rd serivces and program caused this problem

Please refer to the link below for more details about Clean Boot:
