Remote Desktop Totally Broken in Vista x64 SP1 RTM
I have four computers on my LAN---3 running Vista X64 SP1 RTM and one running XP Pro SP2. I have one of the Vista computers acting as a quasi-server from my main Vista desktop. I have enabled Remote Desktop on the quasi-server and am able to browse to/map the two hard drives on it. I am setup as a Workgroup. When I try to establish a RDC between these two machines, I always get "Remote Desktop Disconnected Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or the network administrator." This problem did not occur with any of the RC builds of SP1. All of the options for RDC are set to Default but I have tried various different settings with the same result. Checking about 5-60 google links for RDC for Vista SP1 led to no useful information, although there are quite a few different problems with RDC in SP1 RTM. Finally, I did completley new installs of Vista with SP1 on both machines and still have the same problem. I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this problem. Also does anyone know how I can submit a formal"bug" report to MS for this? AaronM

Solving my own problem for potential use by others. If I use the quai-server's ip addess rather than its name, RDC works just fine. Apparently, MS snuck something in at the last momment that caused a name resolution problem with my NIC, Router and the OS. AaronM

Hello Aaron, Based on your description, I agree with you that this issue is POSSIBLY related to differences between Windows Vista SP1 RC and RTM versions. However, as we are not the best support resource for issues specified to Windows Vista SP1 so far, you may use the following forum, which is focusing on Windows Vista SP1 related questions: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1992&SiteID=17 I hope the issue can be fixes soon! Post updates or result here if possible! Nice day! Regards, Lionel Chen Microsoft Online Community Support
