Remote Desktop Issues with Windows 7 Ultimate (64) in a Small Business Network
We have a small business network (2003 Small Business Server and 9 Desktops) and most of our computers are Windows 7 Professional and we have setup Remote Desktop without any issues. We also have one Windows Ultimate 7 (64) computer that we
can't get Remote Desktop to work. We have tried the following:
Under Remote Settings we checked the box to allow remote assistance, checked the box to allow connections from computers running.
Changed the port number in the registry to be within 49150 to 49160
Added the port to the router associated with the Computer's IP address
Added the port to the McAfee firewall rule
Tried deactivating the firewall to test pinging - we can
ping it from a newtork computer if the firewall is down
Tried remote desktop from another network computer with the firewall
down but doesn't work
From everything that I have found it seems like it is an issue with
Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) since every other computer works.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
First, can you tell me that what kind of error message you receive when the remote connection failed?
Please disable the both sides firewall when you preform the remote desktop.
In addition, make sure you have not chosen “do not connect” in the server authentication options.
Based on my understanding, there is not problem between Windows Professional and Ultimate in Remote Desktop Connection.
So I assume this issue may be caused by the networking.
Also RDP port should be 3389. The range 49150 to 49160 you mentioned are dynamic ports. I do not think this setting is correct. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
