Is your Windows 7 machine a homegroup?

Yes. Both PCs in same room.

XP Home can only be a RDC client not a server. This means you cannot remote desktop from any OS to an XP Home computer. Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Well, I am able to bring up my Windows 7 desktop to my XP PC. Just not the other way around.Tom That's because it's XP Home. You would need XP Pro for it to work.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Well, I am able to bring up my Windows 7 desktop to my XP PC. Just not the other way around. Tom As noted by Kerry XP Home can not act as a Remote Desktop host PC. Look at TeamViewer as an alternative to remotely control your XP Home PC from a Vista/XP client PC over your local LAN. http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx Over your local home LAN only you can configure TeamViewer on the XP Home PC to only accept incoming connections via its IP address and you can configure a static password so you don't need to be running back and forth getting the normal dynamic password. I am trying to use remote desktop to log into my Win 7 using a windows vista, but I am unable to. Is the problem because I am on a different network? I enabled the port forwarding in my router and set it up for remote desktop. I am using Windows 7 Pro on the slave machine and Vista home premium on the master.

Have you tested it from the same network? If that works the problem is with the router. If it doesn't post back with the error you receive when trying to connect.Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
