Remote Desktop Issue
Have a couple of different users who when using Remote Desktop to connect back to their computers work fine until disconnect. After they disconnect from their machines and return back to the office to use their computer the keyboard is no longer active. You can unplug the usb keyboard and replug them back into the machine and then it is active again. This is occuring across two operating systems, one user is on Windows Xp and using Windows XP to connect back to the desktop. Two other users are on Windows 7 and using Windows 7 in one instance and Xp in the other to remote back to their machines. The only common factor between them is all of the office machines are using USB keyboards. Any assistance is appreciated

Hi,Does this issue occur with any kinds of USB keyboards? Regarding this kind of issue, I would like to propose the following suggestions:1. Switch the USB keyboard to a different USB port connection on the computer.2. If you own any available PS/2 keyboards, please connect it to see if the issue occurs. 3. Uninstall and reinstall USB controller to the latest version, make sure that the motherboard is up-dated so as to support devices functioning normally. 4. Enable BIOS USB legacy support if your computer BIOS supports this feature.Best RegardsDale

The issue seems to only exist with USB keyboards. Does not matter which usb port we use on the machine the result is the same. All drivers have been update adn USB legacy support is on in the BIOS. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried other USB keyboards? What is the brand and model of the keyboard? Some keyboards require specific software to function in Windows 7 ( Microsoft IntelliType Keyboard, etc.). Moreover, regarding the samptoms, I suspect that the keyboard is powered off after disconnecting the RDP. Let's try to restore the Power Options to the default settings and see how it works. To do this, please refer to the following steps:1) Click the Start button and type: Power Options in the Search box.2) Click "Change plan settings" on current power plan.3) Click "Restore default settings for this plan".4) Click "Save changes".Best RegardsDale

They are HP keyboards that come with the standard HP system. The power settings are set at default and this still continues. It seems to be like you are saying that the disconnect from the remote desktop seems to power off the keyboard. Because I can remove the keyboard and reconnect it and then it seems to work fine (this is not always true sometimes have to reboot the machine before it will reinitialize the keyboard). You can actually see that the numlock and other lights turn off after the disconnection.
