Home editions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 can't be accessed using Remote Desktop. Microsoft has decided that home computer users don't need that feature. XP Professional, Vista Business and Ultimate, and Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate support access using Remote Desktop. There are products that can do what you want in XP Home Edition, such as RealVNC . A web search for remote access software should bring up more of them.
