Remote Desktop Connection between 2 Win7 PCs
I have 2 Win7 computers A and B, connected to same network af office, no firewall in between. Both are Windows 7 Enterprise, recently updated. On both computers there is the (build-in) user 'administrator'. I have set up RDP on both (on B a few months ago, on A today). I can RDP from both A and B to a WinXP machine and a Win 2003 Server. RDP from A to B is OK (logging in as user administrator) RDP from a WinXP system to B is OK RDP from B to A (logging in as user administrator) is not: "Your credentials did not work" RDP from a WinXP system to A shows the desktop with the users icons of A (so the connection itself over the network is OK), clicking on the Administrator icon asks for a password, but is is NOT accepted: "The user name or password is incorrect". Definitily, there is a problem with RDP towards A (or better: inside A with the credential validation) .. But it's set up in the same way as always. I can't see what is wrong. I checked and double-checked the password of administrator on A with what I type in, in B's RDP dialog window, there's is no typing-error. How to debug this ??

First of all, do not spam the forums with the same thread five times. It is unnecessary, people will answer you regardless of how many threads you open. Secondly, try setting up the firewall to allow RDP: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote desktop" new enable=Yes If that does not work for you follow the steps in this article: Configure Remote Desktop Access on Windows 7 Systems

Hi, I did the netsh ... command on A (answered: Updated 2 rules. Ok.) Checked items 1 to 8 of the "TechNet magazine" link. This is how I configured things. (The Windows Firewall I believe is already set up correctly at the time one Enables RDP ..) Still no success ("Credentials did nto work"). Also tried again after Turning Windows firewall off on A + reboot of A. No success. [ same thread 5 times was because I experienced many times an "internet connection error" after 1 minute or so after hitting the Submit button. Only the 5th time it went OK ... Seems the first attempts still got through ? ]

Okay so how are you connecting, the computers you mention are they all the same domain? Or are we talking about workgroup systems here?

A and B have same account name (administrator) but different passwords

Try setting it up so both passwords match and then try to connect using RDP.

Have you specially allow the account to access remotely? Have you checked Windows Firewall settings? Refer to: Configure Remote Desktop Access on Windows 7 Systems http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff404238.aspx Also you may create another account with password on A and use this account when you connect to A from B. I already tried with Windows Firewall disabled on A. No help. I created a new user/password on A and tried RDP from B to A trying to login as that new user and its password. No help.

I've been having the same problem and none of these solutions have worked either. Have you had any luck, OP? Or figured out a workaround? I'm very curious because it seems like there are no definitive solutions for this problem, at least from what I've found by googling for the last couple days.
