Remote Desktop Connection Stopped Functioning in Windows 7
Hi, I've been using RDC for a while with two machines, one is a Win7x64 desktop and the other is a Win7x86 laptop. Recently RDC connections TO the laptop have ceased to function. I don't know why this happened, it just sort of happened one day, probably after a Windows update and a restart of some kind. This screen shows up. Anyhow, the laptop can RDC into the desktop, but not the other way around any more. Other than the hardware differences and the x86/x64 difference, the machines are set up in the exact same fashion. That is to say, same anti-virus, same network and sharing screen settings, both connected to the same switch using ethernet cables. This is just a home network too, btw... Yea, kinda stuck here, need help. Thanks in advance. Best regards, James Lui

We will be working off the machine giving you the problems and not allowing the connection in. First thing I would check is the 3rd party firewall/MS firewall. Ensure that port 3389 is allowed through the firewall. Next try and go to Network and Sharing Center and go to Advanced Sharing Options . Expand whichever network (Home, work etc) to whichever one the network was added to. Under there turn on network discovery . Also right click Computer (Properties) -> Remote Settings Tick the less secure one just to see if its working and then you can try make it more secure at a later stage.
