Remote Desktop Connection Failed but ping OK on windows 7
Hi, I am trying to make a remote desktop connection to my working Windows7 work station using my Windows7 laptop through VPN. Both OS are Windows 7 Enterprise. The connection just failed. However, I can ping to the WS. And I have surely enabled the remote desktop on WS by selecting "Select Allow Connections From Computers Running Any Version Of Remote Desktop to allow connections from any version of Windows". Also, I have allowed the remote desktop from firewall. BTW the remote desktop used to work but after some Windows update it doesn't any more. I really have no clue. Thanks for any help! Cheers

Hi, is there any error message when you are connecting to your remote Desktop? 1. When you connect to your Windows 7 laptop through VPN, are you able to access your shared resources? (Like fileshare?) 2. Possible to let us know the error message when connecting to Remote Desktop? Thanks.

Hi, Based on the errors you shared, was there any changes done to your router recently? Have you configured 3389 (Remote Desktop port) forwarding on your router? Cheers

Hi , First, make sure the work machine is turned on. If everything is fine before downloading the Windows Update, you may uninstall the update patch which you doubt manually. (Control Panel->Programs and Features->View installed Updates->right click and uninstall) Another way is to perform the system restore which will preserve all the software and files before the previous restore point. And all of your private date will be preserved. Help it helps. Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Computer has a password just like a user. The password is used to encrypt the information between computer and domain controller when they communicate. When your computer password gets changed but it doesn't get synced with Active Directory then your computer is no longer able to authenticate with the domain controllers. As result you are not able to authenticate against that machine and you get "Access is denied" when you try authenticate against it.
