Remote Desktop 2008 R2 SP1 server windows 7 SP1 client fails disconnects randomly
ever since about June or so, my Windows 7 laptop disconnects randomly from my Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server and sometimes it take a few tries to connect. I've searched through the archives for days and none of the solutions work. disable TCP offload...done disable DMA...done disable Network authentication.. done delete my X.509 certificate (not using it. i'm using RDP security) update wifi and LAN drivers on the laptop..done update the LAN drivers on the Server..done. I even applied a hotfix to the server and client hoping to get more recent versions of this application yet nothing has solved this problem. What changed in June/July to cause this. BTW this same laptop has no problems connecting to other servers running the same OS. It just doesn't seem to like my desktop/server for some strange reason. what else can i try? PLEASE HELP LeonLeon <leon.mccalla at ss7hosting dot com>

Hi, Regarding the issue, please kindly check if any Group Policy has been set in Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Session Time Limits 1) Enable "Set time limit for disconnected session" to NEVER 2) Enable "Sets a time limit for active but idle Terminal Services sessions" to NEVER Then enable Fast User Switch: Computer Configuration \Administrative Templates\System\Logon, and set Hide entry points for Fast User Switching to Enabled. If the issue persists, you may temporary try to disable the automatic adjustment for the TCP window size on the network 1. Click Start ,click All Programs, and then click Accessories. 2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. 3. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled 4. Exit the Command Prompt window. 5. Restart the computer. Notice: If you disable them, your risk will take. You could use “netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=enabled” enable this feature. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. 1 & 2 are not the problem. I'm not getting disconnected at regular intervals.. its completely random. sometimes after 25 mins, after 25 seconds, sometimes during the "logging on" banner, and many times i cannot get connected at all. I doubt fast user switching is the problem as this may affect logons but it would not disconnect me. Lastly, I tried this TCP setting, rebooted, and had the same disconnection/non-connection problems. BTW my laptop is on the same LAN as my this dev server. No gateway is needed but the packets pass through 2 Ethernet switches. LeonLeon <leon.mccalla at ss7hosting dot com>
