Remote Connection to Small Business Server 2003
I have a home office network using MSFT SBS 2003 and often connect remotely from a laptop which now has Win7 RC. Before Win7 RC I could remotely connect to my SBS with a Sierra Air Card via AT&T and also have access to the Internet while connected to my SBS. With Win7 RC I can connect to the Internet via the Air Card and it is classified as a public network. When I Connect to Small Business Server, it connects properly to my SBS, but I have no Internet connection. I note in the SBS connection process some script is being executed according to the status msgs. I don't recall this script be run prior to Win7 RC. Is there some way to connect remotely to a SBS network and also have an Intnert connection through the SBS?

How are you connected to the SBS network? Is it with a VPN or Remote Web Workplace to a work computer? If it's a VPN is it the standard SBS PPTP VPN? Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Kerry,I connect to the SBS with the standard SBS PPTP VPN. In the connection window there are 3 stages of messages: 1) Says it is connecting, 2) Says it is verifying password and 3) Says it is running Custom Script (configuring proxy for IE). It is third stage that I don't recall seeing with my previous installation with WinXP.

Is the computer joined to the SBS domain? You would have to look at the Vista group policies for the SBS domain andstop the running of the script.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2043B94E-66CD-4B91-9E0F-68363245C495&displaylang=enIf you are using ISA on the SBS server then it may be an ISA client problem. Kerry,I've looked at your reference above and at the SBS 2003 Vista Group Policy and I can't find any reference to logon scripts that could cause this problem. Any idea of what to search for in the Excel spreadsheet from your reference?I am not using ISA on the SBS 2003.

Since I could not figure out how to change the Group Policy, I found a way to change the script that is run when I Connect to Small Business Server remotely. This solution comes from: http://www.outlookbythesound.com/SBS2003/connection_manager_questions.htmUse notepad to open Documents and Settings\<username>\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Cm\remote\remote.cms. In the section titled [TCP/IP&Connect to Small Business Server Tunnel]Change Gateway_On_Remote=1 to Gateway_On_Remote=0. This change solves the problem.
