Remote Assistance and UAC
Good morning.I'm a big fan of UAC and hate to see it turned of on a PC. However, it's been a huge frustration to work with over Remote Assistance.Since we support users all over the country we rely on RA as a quick way to help. I don't like that we can't respond to UAC prompts (if the user is not a local admin, they can't accept the UAC prompt to let us accept UAC prompts). I *think* that disabling the secure desktop would allow me to see and respond to these prompts, but am worried that that's a security risk.Should I request that our group policy be altered to disable secure desktop, or should I find another way around the issue? Thanks.

Hi,This has been addressed in Service Pack 1.Windows Vista SP1 includes a new Security Policy (UAC: Allow UAccess), which allows applications to prompt for elevation without using the secure desktop. This allows a remote helper to enter administrative credentials during a Remote Assistance session.I have used RA for Vista Sp1 and it works just fine. Victor Constantinescu - MVP Security, MCTS

Oh, great! I will play with that setting and see if that works for us. Thank you!
