RemoteFX Troubles

I have a Windows 2012 Enterprise in Hyper-V role which happens to have an AMD HD6870

In the Hyper-V settings, I have managed to add the GPU for RemoteFX.

I have a VM running Windows 8.1 Pro. I shut it down and I added the RemoteFX GPU.

I reboot the VM and it is not detecting any new hardware. The Device Manager still shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

3D acceleration  does not seem to be enabled.

Hyper-V shows that the GPU is being used by the VM and some memory from the GPU has been allocated to it.

Can someone help me with this? I thought the guest OS would have direct access to the GPU and enable 3D acceleration.

Hi,

Please try to remove RemoteFX firstly before you add new Graphic card. After that, reboot your VM and add RemoteFX.

In addition, also enable Remote Desktop and try to remote this VM with high performance in RDP setting. After remote desktop sucessfully, please check Graphc device in Device Manager.

You must use Enterprise version of Windows 8.1 to utilize RemoteFX features . Pro version is not compatible for VDI with RemoteFX.

I a matter of fact : Pro version is not supported in VDI too. Only Enterprise versions is allowed

OK so I am using Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation as guest in the VM. The RemoteFX display adapter is identified in the device manager but has error code 43.

The Microsoft Virtual 3D Video Transport Driver is showing error code 10.

I found a thread here from 2 years ago that describes exactly the same problem as mine and has gone unsolved.

Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this?

Microsoft is making it impossible for me to evaluate RemoteFX or simply telling me that RemoteFX is broken and I should not bother with it. Quite sad performance for something that should be very simple to set up.

Did you install the latest ATI/AMD drivers for the video card in the Hyper-V ? The parent OS must have all the drivers and components installed and working perfectly .

Try to install the Hyper-V guest components too . They should be built in the Windows 8.1 OS but just give it a try.

I have the latest drivers for my GPU. I had to apply a registry hack to enable 3D acceleration due to a driver bug but in Catalyst I can access 3D features of the GPU.

The GPU is listed in RemoteFX. The VM is configured to use the GPU and when it loads I get those errors on the virtual devices.

I cannot install integration services because it tells me that I already have the latest.

Latest drivers are installed but AMD has a driver bug which I believe I fixed by making some changes in the registry to enable 3D acceleration. In Catalyst I can access the 3D settings for the GPU so I am assuming all is OK.

I already have the latest guest components installed. It does not let me install again.
