RemoteFX / USB redirecting with 8.1 Hyper-V and Win10 Preview

Hi,

I just was testing a lot (2-3h googling and gpedit.msc and many diffenrent OS) of configurations to test USB redirecting

remoteFX documentation seems a bit unprecise as they don't distinguish between the win8.1 hypervisor and 2012R2.

(Virtual PC with Win7Pro SP1 didn't to the trick neither)

I want a USB Device (in my case it's a FTDI serial converter but no virtual COM ports) at least to show up in the guest OS in it's device manager. But they don't.

Is it a limitation of 8.1 hyper-v as host?

Tried with Win7 and Win8.1 as guest also, but only have Pro version, as some technet-blog-based docs claim only Win8.1 Enterprise to be able to.

Last but not least, RDP 8.0 update for Win7 SP1 client did not seem to make it possible to add USB local resources to the the RDP connection.

any Ideal or help I missed?

thanks in advance

Hyper-V has not had a history of remoting USB devices wholly into VMs.

Some type of USB over IP product is the solution.

This has a long troublesome history with folks that want to run software in VMs that use USB licensing HASPs.  Your case is really no different.  But unfortunately it isn't an option.

The best option that is available is to connect to your VM using RDP and if RDP device redirection works with the device it will take over during the duration of the RDP session.

just wanted to add that only Oracle VirtualBox with additional USB Support package worked for me with my USB device as desired.

still a bit unclear: I can span my RDP Screen on 2 monitors when connecting from Win8.1pro to Win10, which was a former feature for Enterprise Versions only afair.
