Rejoin Win 7 Pro to Server 2008 R2 Domain After System Restore
Hello All - Win 7 Pro x64, Server 2008 R2 I have a Win 7 Pro machine that I was performing some maintanence on, and after system restore, at first I was getting the 'windows trust relationship failed' when trying to log onto the domain. Well, I finally got past that point by removing the computer from the domain to a workgroup, but now I am unable to rejoin the computer to the domain. I get the 'cannot contact the domain controller or a list of other reasons'. I have tried many other options, deleting the computer from the domain controller, renaming the computer, changing the computers DNS to point directly at the PDC. This is getting quit frustrating. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Can you communicate with the server from the Windows 7 Pro machine? (ping)

With the computer in a workgroup....Go into ADUC and try creating a new computer object. Allow for replication to occur among your DCs. On the computer itself, the DNS client configuration simply needs to point to internal DNS servers that have access to the DNS zone that hosts your Active Directory. Attempt to join the domain, using the FQDN of the domain. When prompted for credentials, provide a username and password that was given permission to join the domain (during the computer account creation) or has inherit rights in the domain to join computers. If this does not work, what is the error message you are receiving?Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

GT1991 - Yes. At the time I was having these domain joining issues, I could ping both from the server to the client, and from the client to the server. [JM] - I tried what you suggested, but to no avail. I was having quite a few other issues, so I just reinstalled the operating systems, applied all updates and then tried joining the computer to the domain again and it worked. I don't think the application of the the updates was necessary, but I just wanted to get the computer up-to-date before trying the domain join again. Thank you for your quick response. I hope this tread helps others.
