Reinstalling OE6 won't go because my version of IE is too recent.
My OE was having all kinds of problems. The key problem is that you can't delete any messages. I attempted all the fixes listed in the forums to relieve the problem such as deleting the inbox, etc. But, none of these remedies fixed the problem. So, I decided to reinstall OE. I followed instructions to remove it. When I got to the part to reinstall it I hit a wall because I have a later version of IE installed. What next?1 person needs an answerI do too

Reinstalling OE, (which isn't really reinstalling) seldom fixes anything and you would have to remove IE8, IE7 and SP3 to do it.Have you deleted the Deleted Items.dbx file in the message store with OE closed?Move most of your messages out of the Inbox and move any messages you want to save out of Deleted Items and Sent Items. Locate the OE message store and then close OE.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the Deleted Items.dbx and Sent Items.dbx files and delete them. New files will be created automatically when you open OE.After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.--------------------------------If this does not fix it, try in a new identity.File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it.Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Expresshttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169An Outlook Express basic repair kithttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/oerepair.mspx#EHH Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA

My problem is much bigger than that. I don't have any OE now. I found this question which contains my exact scenario.http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/isvvba/thread/f5026e31-070d-4a29-8477-eebcbec0847e/ They never received a response.

Go to the Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components. Make sure Outlook Express checked.Still nothing on the Desktop? Copy this:c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exeStart | Run and Paste it in | OK.Now go to the Control Panel | Set Program Access and Defaults and set OE as default and then you should have the shortcut. If that doesn't fix it, the only action I can think of now is to backup all your personal files and folders and reinstall XP.Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA
