Reinstall XP, Upgrade or Abandon Ship
I have had XP home sp2 for several years with automatic updates. Less than a year ago, I worked with a MS support tech and reinstalled my operating system from my authorized cd.Recently my computer has slowed to almost a halt despite use of anti virus, anti malware software and defragmentation. I, now, have to disconnect the power in order to reboot and access my desk top. Within a few minutes the buttons don't work, the windows freeze up and I have to wait five minutes for everything to clear up; unless I disconnect and start all over again.I'm thinking that I do not want to pay support to walk me through a reinstallation However, if I purchase windows 7 or Vista and install a new operating system over my XP will that resolve my problems or will I have to erase my hard drive, again, anyway? My son showed me his Apple lap top, recently, and I was astounded at how fast it loaded and changed applications.(It even played music better than my own home stereo system!) There was no waiting for anything! Is Microsoft there yet with any operating systems? My pc is 2.4 mhz, dual intel processor, 1000 ram, Seagate 7500 rpm HD (The third one I've built myself) Thanks a bunch. 1 person needs an answerI do too

The OS should give you more than a years time..Even with the fixes you mentioned, youre not cleaning all.Try these first,go to run, type: %Temp% In the new window, edit, select all, delete all,if all dont delete ,create a folder & keep deleting to that folder till 98% are gone, exit when thru.Return to run, type: C:\WINDOWS\Temp Edit, select all, delete all. Usually 1-3 wont delete, they are in use, exit when thru.Return to run, type: CLEANMGR /SAGESET In the window, select all, exit.Return to run, type: CLEANMGR /SAGERUN If a reinstall is still waranted, simply boot pc to xp cd,select install xp,delete the partition, create one,let xp format & install the OS.
