Refresh rate stuck at 59hz
Hi all,Upgraded from 7000beta to 7100RC today and have been having some nasty problems since :(System info:OS: W7 build 7100 x64CPU: Q6600g0 @ 3.6ghzGPU: XFX GTX260Mobo: GA-P35-S3RAM: 4gb Ballistix Tracer, 4-4-4-12@800mhzSound: ASUS Xonar D2Monitors: ASUS MW221u (22" 16:10) + CTX PV722E (17" 4:3)I'm a gamer, used to play anything i could get my hands on but these days mostly just CSS/TF2/L4D/WoW. Since the upgrade, my main screen (MW221u)'s refresh rate has been locked at 59hz which is causing anything on the source engine (everything except WoW) to crash as soon as the renderer tries to init. When I was using the build 7000 beta along with the drivers supplied through WU at the time (WDDM 1.1 by memory) everything was running fine. The problems have only started since moving to 7100. Both the W7 control panel app and the NVIDIA control panel app list 59hz and 60hz as valid refresh rates for my native resolution (1680x1050), but when I select 60hz and apply, it just goes back to 59hz. Tried using the default drivers, the current drivers from WU (185.18) and the current drivers from NVIDIA (186.18), no improvement. Also attempted to force 60hz using a custom monitor inf didn't help. I know that it is the incorrect refresh rate causing the issue since if I drop the resolution down it seems to work ok (both selecting 60hz and actually running the games), however, that is not a workable fix for me as I need to run my native resolution. From what I've read, it seems to just be a rounding issue in that the "60hz" that my system would have been running previously was actually 59.997 and W7 now observes the standards that require it to be rounded down.A quick search over the net shows a LOT of people having similar problems and I've hit every forum in search of answers. Many of the posts are fairly unhelpful in terms of the information provided and the responses given, but I've followed through everything I could find and I'm hoping that my post here is detailed enough to get a valid fix.If I can find my old installs for 7000, I'll try reinstalling that and using 186.18 on it just to 100% confirm the problem has developed with 7100, however, I'm pretty sure as-is.Thanks for any help.

Tempestrix, I'm afraid that this is a known problem with the Windows 7 RC, and you've described the problem better than anybody else has or could up to now. It'll almost certainly be fixed as of the final release, although there are no known workarounds for now.-Alex

New NVIDIA drivers released on WU today (186.35). Just finished installing now, going to reboot and see if it's fixed. EDIT: nup still broken. this prompted me to check NVIDIA for a newer version and it turns out the have 190.38 available. grabbing that now EDIT2: nope, 190.38 no improvement. When trying to change the res through the nvidia applet as opposed to the windows screen res tool, the nvidia app reports that the last attempted mode was at 60hz.. but after reopening the tool that changes to 59, so it is actually being forced back by the looks of it.

tempestrix, hello i am no expert by any means but in my nvidia control panel i changed my refresh rate to 60. when i close and reopen it it still shows it at 60. I am also using the 190.38 driver. i was getting the cursor to "drag" at the 59 refresh rate but not since i changed it. i know there ia a beta version 190.40 but i have not installed it so i can not verify how the driver works. i wish i could give you more info but the 190.38 seems to be working for me. i do not game as much so i can not verify the games you play. the only one i really play now is guild wars ( i just can not pay a monthly fee to play ). if there is anther way to verify my current refresh rate i would but i do not know of another. also before i forget i am not using a lcd t.v. as my monitor instead of a computer monitor.
