Redirected Folder files disappeared
I just recently implemented folder redirection on me and a few test users over the past 2 weeks. I just noticed today that my user account (which logs into multiple machines on a regular basis) is now missing some of the desktop icons and just about all of the My Documents contents. I can retrieve this information from backups, so that's no big deal, but did I miss something? No other user is currently having this problem, but then again, no other user uses more than just their machine at their desk. One thing I did after noticing that login was taking forever was disabling automatic sync of Offline Files, and I moved some unnecessary files from the desktop and My Documents to either file 13 or a different folder as necessary. Hope that helps :)

1. For sure, compare the resulting policy on all computers that you have used. 2. You can set audit and find "quickly" the "fox". 3. When ever I have configured redirection, I had set that administrator has access and the original setting is recoverable, when group policy setting is removed. IMHO: In general, redirected folders has done more problems than better functionality, namely the shortcuts on desktop.... Regards Milos

In the case of your opinion, I chose folder redirection as a way to make sure all business-related material was being backed up nightly. In what way would you easily accomplish this?

Hi, Firstly, based on my knowledge, please enable the policy Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon, located at Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon and see how it works. And based on my research, this issue may be also related to the link speed between your clients and server, configuration in your server and etc. By default, Windows 7 uploads roaming user profile data the same as earlier versions of Windowsduring user logoff, Windows uploads the roaming user profile data to the server. However, you can configure the Group Policy setting, Background upload of roaming user profiles registry file while user is logged on in your Windows Server, to configure the User Profile service to upload roaming user profile registry data in the background while the user remains logged on to the computer. For more detailed information, please refer to Best Practices for User Profiles and What's New in Folder Redirection and User Profiles. Also, it is recommended to post the thread in Windows Server Forums. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

This is good information. Thank you for directing me to the proper forum. However, considering the amount of work versus the results, I and my administrator have decided to go the training route and get rid of all folder redirection, roaming profiles, or anything else we've used to "hold our client's hand". Thank you for your input.
