Red X over network drive on startup
I've run in to this with two separate customers now; and it's getting rather annoying. I've fallen in love with GPP, and while upgrading to Windows 7, I also switched to using GPP to map drives. Problem is that some (but not all) of the drives come up with a red X when the users log on. Consequently they have applications that depend on these, that don't work. All they have to do is open the drive in explorer, and it works. This is obviously not a solution. Funny thing is, when I reenable the vbs logon script that one customer used, it the preferrence settings work (drive name gets updated etc). This seems like a bug to me, as I've seen it in different environments and both on 7 and Server 2008 R2 RDS now. Common denominator is that the shares are on a 2003 server (DFS or not doesn't matter). And yes, I've tried all the timeout-regsettings to no avail. It shouldn't be a timeout anywho, as it occurs during initial logon. Any takes?

Hi, It could be a networking or GPP issue. From Windows 7 PC, I suggest updating the network adapter driver from the manufacture's site. Regarding GPP side, I suggest contacting Windows Server Group Policy Forum to get more specialized support. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/threads Also check if the following post is helpful. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/4f24a096-541e-42ac-bc5a-ddce9e112c6d/ Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Niki, thanks for replying! Can't be a network driver issue, as I've experienced this on both virtual machines and different types of HP-machines (ranging from brand new to 5-6 years old). Reposted in the GP Forum to see if anyone has any takes there, in the meantime I'd like for this to stay open here. I've tried the solution you linked to without any luck. Regards, Kristoffer

Hi, I get this all the time. If you lose connection for even a second the network drives will have the red cross over them. They are still connected as when you click on them they open straight away. Try pulling the network cable out and then reconnecting it and the drives will show the red cross. Thanks!
